High-value items or items that would cause a major inconvenience to the owner if lost, such as:
1) Ask them to return the item to the location where it was found.
2) Inform them they can take the item to the Student Union Lost and Found
Please ensure all valuable items (e.g. wallets or any items estimated to be worth over $150) are taken to the Student Union Lost & Found on the same day they are turned in. Use the blue bins (pictured below) located in each lost and found area to transport these items.

If assistance is required, staff may use the worksite radio to request that an operational lead or supervisor transport the item to the Student Union
If a patron calls or chats in to ask if we have an item in our Lost and Found, you can:
1) Check the Lost and Found yourself if you are at the 2nd Floor Desk or WSEL Staff Office.
2) Send an internal chat message to ask the staff member at the appropriate desk to check for you.
3) If a student assistant is available, you can ask them to go and check.
If the item is in our Lost and Found, inform the patron and ask them to pick it up during our open hours at their earliest convenience.
Patrons sometimes request that we leave the desk to look for an item they left behind. If you don't see the item in our Lost and Found, it is best practice to encourage patrons to return to the library and look for the lost item themselves.
While this may be inconvenient for the patron, we want to avoid leaving the desk to look for lost items. Our policy clearly states that library staff are not responsible for unattended items.
If patrons are unable to return to the library to look for their item(s) that day, let them know they are welcome to continue to call throughout the day to check if the item is turned in. However, do not take down names or phone numbers to call a patron back when items are turned in.
The Lost & Found at Main Library has been relocated to the millwork cabinets beneath the self-checkout area on Main 2nd, as shown below.
Please note that the cabinets should remain locked at all times unless someone is turning in or retrieving an item. The key is #2 with a pink keychain and is stored in the lockbox in B258.
