A Culture Pass is free admission for two people at participating arts and cultural institutions.
One pass = two free admissions to be used within 7 days of check-out.
Patrons should select a pass from the kiosk and bring it to the 2nd Floor Ask Us desk to have one of our staff members check it out. These passes cannot be checked out using the self-checkout machines.
Please note: Patrons with active fees on their Alma account cannot check out Act One Culture Passes. This is in line with our checkout policies for all other circulating items. Please do not override any blocks related to fees.
Loan period: One (1) week
Reservations: Passes are first come, first served and cannot be reserved.
Renewals: Passes cannot be renewed.
Weekly restrictions: Patrons are only allowed to check out one (1) pass per week. Alma will automatically block any additional check-outs.
Monthly restrictions: Patrons cannot check out more than two (2) passes per month.
Patrons with account fees: Patrons with active fees on their Alma account cannot check out Act One Culture Passes. Please do not override any blocks related to fees.
Patrons can check Primo for pass availability by clicking the link on the Culture Pass webpage.
Desk Staff can also check the Alma widget for pass availability.
Each venue has a different number of passes available. If a pass holder is empty in the kiosk, this likely means that all passes for that venue are currently on loan. Users can check back at a later date.
Passes are first come, first served, and cannot be reserved or placed on hold.
Act One has a list of passes they offer on their website. Occasionally, patron will refer to this list when asking why we do not have specific passes. We are included in the group "Southern Arizona Libraries" on the Act One website, the passes listed under that group are the passes we have access to.
Check and confirm the pass the patron is referencing is not one listed under the other two library categories. If it is listed there but not in the category "Southern Arizona Libraries", then it is not a pass we currently offer.
Act One Culture Passes are only available for active UA affiliates. (Students, faculty, staff, and some DCCs.)
Non-UA community members should be directed to Pima County Public Library, where they will have access to this free program.
This includes community members with a UA community library card.
If a patron loses their paper receipt, you can issue a new one from the desk by following the steps below:
Verify in Alma that they currently have a pass card checked out for the venue in question. Note the Due Date for the pass.
Retrieve a paper receipt and adjust the date on the stamp to match the due date in the patron account.
The patron does not get “extra time”.
Don’t forget to change the date on the stamp back to one week from today's date.
If patrons have feedback regarding the checkout process or pass availability, please make an Ask Us ticket on their behalf or direct them to email library@arizona.edu.
I&T staff will route these tickets to the appropriate channels.
If you have feedback or suggestions regarding the checkout process—such as pass card storage, receipts, or other aspects—please reach out to John, Michelle, Chris, and Travis via email or Slack.
For any feedback related to Alma/Primo, please also direct your comments to Mona.
To provide Act One with data regarding unmet needs for culture passes, please use the LibInsight form at the 2nd Floor Desk to track which desired culture passes were unavailable.
STEP ONE: The patron selects their desired pass card from the kiosk and brings it to the Ask Us desk at Main Library 2nd Floor.
STEP TWO: Staff will ask the patron to scan their CatCard in order to pull up their account in Alma.
Take the pass card from the patron and scan the barcode on the pass card to check it out to the patron's account, then hit "Done" to complete the transaction in Alma. Do not hand the pass card back to the patron.
Move on to Step Three.
STEP THREE: Take the pass card to the reception storage area.
Locate the Act One Culture Pass file box and find the folder for the corresponding venue. Remove a paper receipt from the file box folder and stamp it with the Culture Pass date stamp. Verify that the stamped date is exactly one week from today.
Afterward, move to the folders in the clear plastic organizer and file the pass card in the folder labeled with today’s day of the week (e.g., Monday, Tuesday, etc.).
Move on to Step Four.
STEP FOUR: Give the stamped/validated receipt to the patron. This receipt is what they will present to gain free entrance to their chosen venue.
