Learning Studios FAQ

Reserving the Sound Studio

The Sound Studio can be reserved by students, faculty, staff, and community members. CATalyst staff offers an orientation on how to use the space and equipment.

Reservations can be made on the library website here: Sound Studio

  • Community members wanting to make a reservation in the Sound Studio should be directed to the Catalyst Contact Form.

Reservations when CATalyst Studios is closed:

If a patron asks to be let into the Sound Studio when CATalyst is closed, staff will first need to see the patron's email confirmation to confirm that they have a reservation before letting them into the room.

AIS staff can open the Sound Studio using the code in Stache after the patron's reservation has been verified. However, we do not provide tech support for this room.

  • Users can reach out to CATalyst through their online form OR use the physical troubleshooting guides created by CATalyst staff if they have any issues or questions.
  • If a community patron wants to book the Sound Studio same day while CATalyst is closed, they will still need to reach out to CATalyst via the contact form. We cannot guarantee same day reservations for community users.

What do to if users are in these spaces without a reservation?

If a user or group of users is using a Learning Studio but you aren't sure if they have they have it reserved:

  • Ask the user/group if they have reserved the space, indicating that it is only available by reservation
  • Check the appropriate platform (Outlook, Libcal) to verify if they have a booking.
  • For immediate support contact Matt or Travis via Slack or through email.
  • Observe the group's behavior and use your best judgment as to whether it is appropriate to ask them to leave immediately and interrupt their activity, or if you will allow them to continue working with the understanding that you are making a one-time exception (making sure it wouldn't conflict with a valid booking). If you make an exception make sure to follow up with Matt, Osiel, and Violeta.
