Data analysis & visualization

If students, staff, or faculty have questions about data analysis or visualization, please direct them to the Data Cooperative’s Tuesday morning drop-in event where they can ask questions and get support.

Answering questions

If the question is about what to do with published/finished research products, including data, contact Fernando Rios  and/or Kimberley Chapman.

If students faculty or staff need assistance with qualitative data please adapt one of the the following responses:

This guide can be included in all responses.

For general inquiries, if they are not sure what the need is
There is limited support for qualitative data analysis software on campus. The library does have a guide on QDA for researchers, but we don't have the capacity or staffing to support QDA software consultations. There is a computer at UAL Main library and WSEL that has an copy of Atlas.ti installed if you want to try it out.

If they need software help/options
NVivo and Atlas.ti seem to be the two dominant options for performing qualitative data analysis (QDA), though there are others. The understanding of qualitative data analysis  software is that they all function very similarly and the one you stick with is the one you are either first introduced to or the one you are most comfortable with. Here are a couple guides and outlines that help demystify the process of working with these:

UIUC's comparison chart in terms of what to expect from each platform is helpful.

If help is needed with working in Atlas OR Nvivo, feel free to pull based on questions re specific software(easily combined with above two answers).
