LGBTQIA+ Resources: Introduction

Welcome!

Welcome to the University of Arizona's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, Two-Spirit+ (LGBTQIA2S+) LibGuide. This guide is a collaboration between the University of Arizona Libraries, the College of Education, and the University of Arizona LGBTQ Affairs. The goal of this resource guide is to bring awareness to issues facing LGBTQIA2S+ people on campus and provide resources for queer students, faculty, and staff. We also hope this guide provides strategies and ideas for future educators in their teaching careers.

This guide recognizes and celebrates the profound contributions of queer students, staff, and faculty to the University of Arizona community. By offering curated content on various forms of LGBTQIA2S+ culture, history, scholarship, and identity, our hope is that those who identify as LGBTQIA2S+ will find resources and community, and that those outside of the community will find educational resources to inform their allyship.

LGBTQ Affairs

The Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ) Affairs works to build, sustain, and strengthen a safe, inclusive, and open environment for students, faculty, staff, appointed professionals, alumni, parents, and guests of all gender and sexual identities. The LGBTQ+2S RC focuses on building an anti-colonial, anti-racist space and shaping programs that center the most oppressed, working to meet their physical, educational and emotional needs. This is done through programs, trainings, events, and the LGBTQ+ Resource Center in the Student Union.

GLAAD

Founded in 1985, GLAAD is a non-profit organization focused on LGBTQ advocacy and cultural change. GLAAD works to ensure fair, accurate, and inclusive representation and creates national and local programs that advance LGBTQ acceptance. Serving as a storyteller, media force, resource, and advocate, GLAAD tackles tough issues and provokes dialogue so that authentic LGBTQ stories are seen, heard, and actualized. GLAAD strives to protect all that has been accomplished and helps create a world where everyone can live the life they love.
