Sustainable Development Goals

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
In September 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Building on the principle of “leaving no one behind”, the new Agenda emphasizes a holistic approach to achieving sustainable development for all.

Pre-2015 - Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – which ranged from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 – formed a blueprint agreed to by all the world’s countries and all the world’s leading development institutions. They galvanized unprecedented efforts to meet the needs of the world’s poorest.
