Library Instruction: Outcomes & Assessment

Satisfaction Assessment Options

Student Survey / Checkpoint: How are you doing?

  • A bit before their assignment is due, you could poll the students to see if they think they have the skills they need to find their sources.  Example questions:
    • How confident do you feel about being able to find sources for your upcoming assignment using the library's resources?
      • Very confident
      • Somewhat confident
      • Not at all confident
    • If you don't feel confident, may I contact you to help you?
  • Or, you could simply send out an email with a reminder link to resources (such as a research/course guide) and that you are available to help with finding, evaluating, and citing sources.

Follow-Up Check-in with Faculty

  • Often the faculty member will have a sense of how students are doing.  Ask them (example):
    • Thank you for bringing in your students for library instruction. I just wanted to touch base since their assignment is coming up to make sure they are doing well with their research.  If any of them are hitting stumbling blocks, please encourage them to contact me for help.  Additionally, if you are fielding the same questions over and over again, I'll be happy to do a short follow-up session or to send them links to resources that will help get them going.  Thanks again!
