OA in the Health Sciences

OA in Health and Medicine

While open access is important to all fields, it has particular urgency in the health sciences, where research has important and potentially life-saving clinical applications. By removing barriers to access and increasing the dissemination of research findings, OA has many benefits in medicine, including:

  • Accelerating the speed of research, turning research into actionable clinician guidelines quicker
  • Giving clinicians access to research needed at the point-of-care
  • Increasing opportunities for patient education

Through open access, patients and practitioners benefit, leading to better healthcare outcomes for patients.
