RefWorks: RefWorks


There is a new version of Proquest RefWorks available. You can take a take a tour of the new interface and features in these videos. For the next year, both the new version and the current product will be available for you to use. You can choose which version you want to use when you sign in to RefWorks:

You can migrate your account and data from the legacy version to the new product:

  1. Sign in to the legacy version.
  2. Select the link at the top of the screen “Move to the new version of RefWorks…”

Once the migration is complete, you’ll want to choose the ProQuest RefWorks option the next time you sign in as well as when exporting citations from library databases

About RefWorks

RefWorks is a Web-based citation management product that allows you to collect and organize your references and instantly format your in text citations and bibliographies when writing papers.

RefWorks access is free to the University of Arizona (UA) community.  UA users need to sign up for a new account before they can use RefWorks.

Getting Started with RefWorks


Write-N-Cite allows you to cite references from your RefWorks account while you are writing a paper.  There are many bibliography styles available through Write-N-Cite, that you can choose from to format your bibligoraphy, in-text citations, and footnotes.

The Write-N-Cite component of RefWorks must be downloaded before you can use this feature of RefWorks.  Once you create and log into your account in RefWorks, go to Tools from the menu at the top and drop down to select Write-N-Cite. Further information on downloading Write-N-Cite and compatability is provided.

Off-Campus Access (Remote Access)


  • Login to RefWorks from the AHSL website link (Go to Top Resources to find RefWorks)  with your NetID, then your RefWorks account username & password. 
  • To use Write-N-Cite, follow the directions at Refworks Guide. To to install WNC software and set up proxy configuration. The next time you open Write-N-Cite, you will be prompted to enter your NetID in addition to your Refworks login.
  • You will be asked for a group code if you open RefWorks or Write-N-Cite directly or through Word. Be sure you use the link for RefWorks at AHSL website link above.


  • Always start VPN first. (Download VPN software)
  • Open browser & connect to RefWorks through the AHSL website link above. Login with RefWorks username & password. If asked for group code, close browser and restart it. Clear cookies and open RefWorks again from the library website.
  • To use Write-N-Cite from Word: 1. First save your Word document. 2. Open your 'titled' Word document. 3. Click 'Write-N-Cite' under the 'Add Ins'.
