Student Worker Circulation Guide

This guide is meant to provide basic direction and relevant information for student workers in the Law Library working the circulation desk.

How to Use the meeScan Self-checkout Station to Check Out a Book.

  • At the self-checkout kiosk iPad press "Start" on the screen.
  • Next, tap your CatCard on the reader attached to the right side of the kiosk iPad.
  • Locate the barcode on your book.  The barcode is usually on the back of the book.
  • Hold the book so that the barcode is facing up.
  • Place the book on the white station to the right of the iPad screen. Ensure that the spine of the book is resting against the guide and the barcode faces upward toward the scanner (the scanner is the tall blue lighted stand just left of the white station).
  • Slide the book towards the barcode scanner red light.  Keep sliding until the red scanning line crosses the barcode.  You will hear a beep when the barcode is scanned.
  • Leave the book in place and wait for the white station to deactivate your book.  A green light will come on along with an audible "thump."
  • As each book is deactivated, it will move to "items on loan" list in the meeScan kiosk (iPad screen).
  • A red light indicates a problem. Make sure the book has been checked out and is showing in your meeScan kiosk (iPad screen). Try again.  If the problem persists, please see the library staff at the Circulation desk.
  • Continue the process for each book.
  • After all books have been deactivated, a "Finish" button in the meeScan kiosk iPad appears.  Tap the button to complete the transaction.
  • A receipt will be sent to your UA email account.
